In November 2019 Monageer Parish Grotto was awarded “Best Overall Winner” in the Keep Wexford Beautiful Awards.
All our volunteers were thrilled to have their hard work acknowledged and rewarded in this way. To celebrate this great achievement, we had a get-together of all our Grotto volunteers and Knitwits members at our local Monageer Tavern.
Mass of Our Lady has been rescheduled to be celebrated in Monageer Grotto on Friday 16th August at 7.30 pm (weather permitting).
This is an annual outdoor event and numbers have been steadily increasing over the last few years. All are welcome. Refreshments will be served afterwards.
Yarn bombing is a type of non-destructive temporary street art that employs colourful displays of knitted or crocheted yarn to cover objects or structures in a public place.
Over the weekend of 8th/9th June 2019 Monageer Grotto was transformed into a riot of colour by the local group of Knitwits, who had spent their winter months creating artistic pieces to decorate the trees on the three and a half acre site. The pieces are ornate and tactile in keeping with the ethos of the Sensory Path. With over 100 pieces on show it’s a must see. This temporary art installation will remain in place over the summer months, or until the effects of the weather dictate otherwise!
Monageer Knitwits yarnbombing project featured on RTE’s Nationwide programme on 19th June 2019. You can see the programme on RTE Player or RTE Player International.
A fabulous day was had by all at Monageer Grotto’s Easter Fun Day on 22nd April 2019. We were delighted and surprised to see people turn up in such numbers and we truly hope everyone enjoyed the day. Kids queued up in numbers to take part in the treasure hunt, paint eggs, run races and play games. The children were so well behaved that even the Easter Bunny and Donald Duck turned up to have their picture taken with them! And of course, while the kids were busy the adults had time to relax and have a cuppa. Thanks to everyone for being so generous with their donations as this allows us to continue to provide seasonal decor and activities going forward. A big thank you also to our volunteers on the day.
